2013 Family Camp - Fri 25th to Sun 27th October

posted 3 Oct 2013, 04:06 by Andrew Yeaman

1st Heatherdale Venturer, Scout, Cub and Joey families are all invited to attend our 2013 family camping event. We are welcoming and encouraging all families to attend. You may be able to participate for one or two nights or we are close enough to simply come along for a day trip if you are unable to stay overnight!

Longridge Park: is in Warrandyte beside the Yarra River. Aptly named, the long ridge through this park offers spectacular and breathtaking views of the Yarra River and surrounds. Eastern Grey Kangaroos are frequently seen in the area and a quiet visitor may also spot platypus playing in the river. Cushioned between the Yarra River and the surrounding slopes, the river flats have been established as the perfect camping retreat.

How to get there: See Attached Document ‘Longridge Park Visitor Guide’.

Camping Fees: Per Family - $20 for 1 night or $35 for two nights.

NEW for 2013……Saturday Night Group Dinner:
This year we have organised a group roast beef and pork dinner for all campers at a cost of $6 per person. So enjoy a night off from cooking (you will need to supply your own plates and cutlery).

As this is a family camp, you are responsible for your own children and you will need to bring all the camping equipment/food you require.
The Scouts do have tents available if you should need to borrow one (please see your Leaders.)

There is a BBQ and hot water available as well as showers and toilet facilities for your convenience.

Please advise via e-mail if you are planning to attend, please include family name, nights you are attending and the number of people for dinner jbogeman AT bigpond.net.au. Please record this information on a sealed envelope with money enclosed and hand to your Leaders.

We look forward to another successful and fun camp with our 1st Heatherdale families.

Congratulations to the Owl Patrol (Eve - PL, Grace, Emma and Brendan from 1st Mitcham) for winning a Gold pennant at this year's Cohen Shield.

In order to qualify for gold the patrol had to ...
  • construct a flag pole and fly a flag from it,
  • take part in a science experiment to simulate a giant growth on the back of a sheep
  • take part in a cooking challenge
  • participate in a first aid scenario and provide appropriate treatment
  • navigate from Portsmouth to Sydney Cove

Scout Achievements Recognised by City of Whitehorse

posted 21 Aug 2013, 02:54 by Andrew Yeaman

Our very own Madeleine H and Grace C were personally invited by the City of Whitehorse Mayor Cr Andrew Munroe and recognised for earning their Australian Scout Medallion and Grey Wolf awards respectively.  All of the joeys, cubs, scouts and venturers in the Whitehorse District who had earned the top awards in their sections were recognised.  This is a great initiative by the City of Whitehorse and only the second such evening.  Not only were the awards presented by the Mayor, but numerous councillors and district scouting leaders were also in attendance.  And the drinks and refreshments were great.

Huge congratulations to Madeleine and Grace for their efforts.  We should be very proud of them.

2013 Group Camp - October

posted 21 Aug 2013, 00:53 by Andrew Yeaman

It’s time for the Family Camp on Friday 25th October to Sunday 27th October.
Family camp is an opportunity for our families to spend some time together around a camp fire having some fun.  In 2012 nearly forty families joined us over the weekend and in 2013 it will be bigger.

We have again booked the camp site at Longridge Park in Warrandyte which is lovely and lush and green with lots of open space to set up camp and enjoy fun activities.
It would be fantastic if we could have as many Scouting families together in the great outdoors for this memorable event. (We are even close enough for the children to pop out to sporting commitments and return again to camp for more fun!)

Further information will be distributed closer to the event.
