Scouts at Melbourne Show

posted 29 Nov 2014, 23:32 by Andrew Yeaman

The following article appeared in Australian Scout November 2014:

In September, four Scouts (and one Cub Leader) from 1st Heatherdale worked as volunteers at the Royal Melbourne Show.  We arrived early, donned our volunteer vests and caps and were given a quick course in what to do (and what not to do).  Despite the hot and very windy conditions, the Scouts worked hard engaging the public and encouraging them (young and old alike) to participate in the many activities on offer.   Despite being exhausted after a long day, each of the Scouts was eager to return.  So, two days later we went back to do it all again.
P.S. The Show organisers were so impressed with our efforts they expressed their enthusiasm for us to return next year, hopefully with a Scouting display of our own.

Four Scouts from 1st Heatherdale Scout Group visited the Royal Melbourne Show on Sunday the 28th of September to volunteer.  Ben, Grace, Charli and I worked from nine thirty to five thirty and enjoyed every second of it.  We were stationed either at My
Backyard, the animal nursery or the Paddock to Plate pavilion.  I spent most of the day at My Backyard, where I helped visitors to pot seedlings, decorate rocks and make bird feeders.  It was a long day, but worth the effort and with short breaks in between.  It was quite windy but it didn’t rain.  We had a very fun day and thank goes to Grace’s dad for coming along.

Whitehorse Spring Festival - Sun 19 Oct

posted 15 Oct 2014, 03:03 by Andrew Yeaman

The Whitehorse Festival will be on again this Sunday 19th October behind the Whitehorse Civic Centre.

Once again we have the Scout rope bridge and an excellent site at the immediate rear of the Civic Centre on a high level piece of ground.

1st Heatherdale has been asked to provide leaders to man the Scout stand from 11am until 1pm to supervise children on the bridge.  If you are unable to assist during this time you are encouraged to do any alternative time slot.

It would be great if youth members (in uniform) and families could also come along.

Seals: Julian Vance (PL), Ben Yeaman (APL), Angus Williamson, Conor Dentith, Harry Sutherland, Matt Vance
Panthers: Daniel Cockburn (PL), Emma Rahman (APL), Cal Vance, Jared Savage, Jasmine Robinson, Jonah Birkett
