We are planning a bike hike, along the Great Victorian rail trail, over the weekend of the 11th to the 13th of October. The rail trail runs from Tallarook to Mansfield and in total is 134 Km's long! Our plan is to ride some of it with an overnight camp along the way. Kiwi has ridden the track and the surface is very good, mostly compacted toppings or gravel. You can get information on the trail here: We will start in Mansfield on Saturday morning then ride to Bonnie Doon, Merton, and Yarck where we will camp. On the Sunday we will ride to Molesworth, up and through the Cheviot tunnel, and then finish up at Yea on the Sunday afternoon. Here are the distances between the various locations:
So that's 60 Km's to cover on the Saturday and 28 Km's on the Sunday. Given the distances and the overnight camp we will need support vehicles and also help with the ferrying of Scouts and bikes to Mansfield and back from Yea. Parents are also welcome to join us on the ride if they wish to. But we will need help from parents to take Scouts and bikes up to Mansfield on the Friday night and/or bring the same back on Sunday afternoon from Yea. The cost of the weekend will be $40 each plus some money for lunch on Sunday in Yea. So dust off your bike, stretch those legs, and get yourself ready for the 1st-Heatherdale great bike hike. Scouts remember to put down on the sign on sheet if you are coming or not. Parents once you have discussed with your Scouts would you please reply to Kiwi indicating YOUR availability. We cannot offer or run these types of activities without your assistance. The plan for the weekend is:
