Venturer Scouts
Venturer Scouts are young people aged between 14 and 18 years old, dedicated to fun, adventure and serving the community. Venturers Scouts transition to the Rover Scout Section after turning 18 whilst Venturer Scouts who turn 18 during Year 12 can wait to transition until they complete Year 12.
Venturers are: -
Discovering and exploring independence
Broadening their perspectives
Securing their interests and priorities in life
Relying strongly on peer support
Taking on more responsibilities
Seeking purpose, challenge and risk
Our Venturers meet on Tuesday nights from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Why Venturers?
When you’re dealing with your toughest years in school and making decisions about your future, Venturer Scouts offer vital breathing space. You can focus on friendship and personal growth, while picking up valuable life skills along the way.
Venturer Scouts enjoy interstate, national and even international travel experiences. We take time out to work on mental and physical well-being. You can learn to fly, abseil down cliffs or climb mountains.
Camping steps up to a whole new level of adventure, with snow challenges, rafting, horse riding and scuba diving. It’s all about healthy risk-taking, when so many young friends are making unhealthy choices
49C11
Our Venturer Scout Unit is called 49C11. This unit formed some years ago - when a number of units across the Whitehorse Scout District - that had very small numbers combined to create one STRONG unit. They have their own Scarf (purple and black). One tradition they have, is when they invest a new member (someone coming from scouts or new to the unit) it is done in a BIG way.
Sometimes while on a hike or abseiling at night.
Note - 49C11 does sound a little different as a name right?
Well the unit was named after our hall location in the old Melways street directory - Page 49 grid C 11
Achievement Pathways
Achievement Pathways fit within the one journey model of Scouting - a framework featuring a continuous series of personal achievements across the whole program, from the beginning of the Joey Scout Section through to the end of the Rover Scout Section. Providing Scouts the opportunity to determine their own Scouting journey for their own personal development.
Imagine the whole Achievement Pathways as a journey across a mountain range. Each Section of the program explores new and more challenging opportunities for achievement across the mountain range.
Your achievement really steps up in Venturer Scouts and can earn vocational qualifications, recognised across Australia or you can use your Scouting experiences towards your VCE.
The Queen's Scout Award, the peak award for Venturer Scouts, is so highly respected that several universities will recognise it for entry purposes.
All Sections are now actively engaged in 'Our Program' and moving to common Achievement Pathways One Program - One Journey. You don’t need to have any previous Scouting experience. We’ll help you catch up.
Venturers can help you find your way in life!
